Rallarvegen Shelter

Inspired by the “Digital workflows in glued timber fabrication” workshop at CITA studio, the Rallarvegen Shelter takes shape from glue-laminated timber pieces bent into shape and covered with fabric. Located at the iconic Rallarvegen route, the structure acts as a resting spot and hideout place for cyclists and hikers heading towards Finse.

The structure is generated by a Grasshopper definition that takes a surface as an input and creates all the structural and skin geometry of the shelter. The whole process is self contained within the script and the amount of elements can be changed and iterated quickly by simultaneously generating all the geometry. The shape and opening size of the “sails” is controlled by an attractor point.
